Description
Birdwood House is a farmhouse, likely built in the late 18th century. It features reddish-brown Flemish-bond brickwork, an ashlar plinth, and chamfered stone quoins on the front, topped with a tiled roof. The house has three windows across the front and three storeys, which slope down to two storeys at the rear, with a depth of two rooms. A late 20th-century gabled single-storey porch, supported by brick pillars, is located in the center and replaces an earlier porch. The front door is a six-panel design, with the bottom panel fielded, the main upper panel glazed, and the top panel fielded with oval glass panes. The windows are four-pane wide sash types, featuring stepped stone voussoirs and projecting keystones. The second-floor windows are two-pane high sashes, with a late 19th-century replacement in the center that is three panes wide. The eaves are adorned with dentils, and there are gable chimneys within the roofline. A datestone in the garden wall reads 'J. E. 1787'. The house forms a group with the chapel opposite.
