Description
The boundary wall and gateways, likely built in the early 19th century, run continuously from Nos 36 to 64 in Sherborne Village. The wall is constructed of thin-bedded coursed limestone, featuring rounded capping in cement along most of its length, and it reaches a height of approximately 1.5 meters. This wall is an important feature of the street, providing a continuous definition of the back of the pavement or verge edge, with some breaks for gates or openings. It starts at No 36 (The Gables) and extends to the end gable of No 55, then resumes beyond the garden wall of No 55 and continues to the lane running north opposite Sherborne Farm, reaching the gable wall and outbuildings of No 62, and finally extending to the gable wall of the outbuilding at No 64. There are also lengths of similar walling that form boundaries to the gardens of the estate cottages immediately to the north.
