Description

This listing describes a row of four estate cottages located in Sherborne Village, dating from the early 19th century. The cottages are constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone and feature a stone slate roof. There are two 19th-century ashlar chimney stacks, while three other stacks have been restored in dressed stone during the 20th century. The cottages have a long rectangular plan and are one and a half storeys high.

Each cottage has a symmetrical facade with two windows. The first floor features two half dormers with stone-mullioned casements, while the ground floor has two similar casements with stopped hoods. At the center of each facade, there are 20th-century part-glazed doors with canopies that have moulded margins, supported by moulded brackets. The right gable end of each cottage includes a two-light stone-mullioned casement with a stopped hood at the first floor level.

The gable-end and axial stacks are positioned on plinths, with two of them featuring moulded cappings. The gable ends and dormers have flat coping, and moulded kneelers are present. The interiors have not been inspected. Additionally, there are coursed squared and dressed limestone walls approximately 2 meters high that form the boundaries to the yards at the rear of the cottages. The property is owned by the National Trust.
