Description
Number 37, which incorporates the Post Office, and Number 38, along with the walls on either side, are two cottages that were formerly three estate cottages in a row. They date from the early 19th century and are constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone, topped with a concrete tile roof. The building has two 19th-century ashlar stacks and two 20th-century dressed stone stacks on ashlar plinths, with a long rectangular plan.
At the first floor, there are five half dormers, each featuring 2-light stone-mullioned casements. The ground floor has six 2-light stone-mullioned casements, all with stopped hoods. There are three 20th-century part-glazed plank doors, each with a flat stone canopy that has moulded margins, supported by moulded brackets. The gable ends feature stacks, along with two axial stacks, all set on plinths. Two of the stacks have 19th-century moulded cappings. The gable ends and dormers are finished with flat coping and moulded kneelers. The interiors have not been inspected. The walls, made of coursed squared and dressed limestone, are approximately 2 meters high and run at right angles to the gable ends. The wall on the right connects Number 38 to Number 39.
