Description
The stable block, located approximately 65 meters west of Whittington Court, dates from the late 16th to early 17th century. It is constructed from coursed squared and roughly dressed limestone, topped with a stone slate roof, and features a long rectangular plan with two storeys. The building has a flat-chamfered plinth and an off-centre right C19 plank door set within a wide flat-chamfered 'Tudor'-arched surround. Symmetrical stone steps rise on either side of this door, leading to plank doors that provide access to the first floor. The left-hand door is within a shouldered arch, while the right-hand door is within a flat-chamfered 'Tudor'-arched surround. There is an opening for a kennel at the base of the left-hand steps.
On the upper floor, there are four double-chamfered 2-light stone-mullioned casements, and three similar casements on the ground floor. A plank door with a 'Tudor'-arched head is located immediately to the left of the left-hand steps, with additional similar doorways towards the left and right gable ends. The left gable end features a two-light stone-mullioned window, while another similar window is found in the rear wall, alongside a blocked 'Tudor'-arched doorway. The flat gable end coping is adorned with roll-cross saddles.
Inside, the first floor contains five grain bins at the right gable end, and the roof features 20th-century collar and tie trusses, likely spanning eight bays in total.
