Description
The stable block, located at the southeast corner of the stable courtyard, is likely from the early to mid 18th century and has been altered over time. It is constructed from coursed magnesian limestone rubble with quoins and features a stone slate roof. The building has a square plan and consists of two storeys with four bays. The west front facing the courtyard includes four stable doors set within a blocked arcade of four elliptical-headed arches, along with two 2-light windows on the first floor positioned between the first and second bays, and the third and fourth bays. The roof is pyramidal with an apex chimney. Historically, it seems to have been built as an open-arcaded cart-house and was noted as "Whippers-in" on a garden survey conducted by Detmar Blow around 1907.
