Description

The former stable block at Dingestow Court is a striking building that showcases strong architectural character despite its relatively modest size. Constructed with pink sandstone ashlar at the front, it features a half-timbered gable and a red tiled roof that is hipped at the southwest corner. The rear of the building is made of mixed random rubble. It has a rectangular five-unit plan oriented north-south and faces east, being single-storeyed except for a broad gabled loft above the first and second units.

The front of the building is designed in Tudor style with finely-crafted details. It has four irregularly-spaced doorways, with one two-light window located between the first and second doorways, two windows between the third and fourth, and one at the right-hand end. Each doorway features a shallow Tudor-arched head with two orders of cavetto moulding that taper down to a simple chamfer about two-thirds of the way up. The southernmost doorway provides access to a through-passage, while the others have board stable doors fitted with long strap hinges. All windows are surrounded by chamfered surrounds, have recessed chamfered mullions, and are fitted with diamond lattice leaded glazing.

Overhanging the first and second units is a broad timber-framed gable, which includes an almost square hay-loft door at its center, surrounded by stud-and-rail panelling adorned with curved struts at the outer corners. At the junction of this gable roof and the main range roof, there is a lead-clad cupola with a square base and a domed cap. The rear wall of the building is blind.
