Description
Fishpool Farmhouse is a two-storey building that resembles a simple "doll's house" and has a charming facade reminiscent of naive art. The front wall is constructed from handmade brick in English garden wall bond (3+1), featuring a mix of warm red hues along with some vitrified blackened bricks scattered throughout. The rear and gable walls are made of random rubble, with the west gable and chimneys now rendered. The roof is covered in blue slate laid in regular courses.
The farmhouse has a rectangular plan facing east and displays an almost symmetrical facade with three windows. On the ground floor, the entrance is noticeably offset to the left of center and features a simple segmental-headed doorway with a wooden doorcase and a boarded door, which is sheltered by a basic pitched canopy supported by two slender square posts. Above the doorway, but offset to the right, is a relatively narrow segmental-headed cross-window. Flanking these openings are wider segmental-headed windows that include transomed tripartite casements. Each gable is topped with a chimney that has a bulbous cornice, and small attic windows are present on the gable walls. The rear of the building has altered windows, and attached at an angle to the ground floor is a single-storey 20th-century corridor that connects to the front of the old house behind.
