Description
Common House Farmhouse is an early 19th-century building with origins dating back to the 17th century. It is constructed of brown brick in Flemish bond and features a slate roof. The farmhouse has two storeys and a three-room baffle entry plan, with a rear wing that creates an overall "T" shaped layout. The entrance includes a studded, boarded door set in a heavy oak frame, adorned with external architraves and a slated gabled hood supported by rakers from wooden corbels.
At the first floor, there are three-light wood casements with stone sills, while the ground floor windows have segmental arches and the first floor windows are topped with wedge lintels. The brickwork is built on a weathered stone plinth, and there is a three-course deep brick band above the ground floor window heads. The verges feature ogee moulded kneelers, although the copings and lower thrust blocks are missing. The roof has a stone ridge and two stacks that divide it into three sections. The rear wing, which serves as a dairy, is a single bay built in English Garden Wall bond, featuring a boarded door and a gable-end stack, with evidence suggesting that the roof has been raised.
Inside, the farmhouse displays exposed bevelled beams. At the rear, there is a 19th-century pump with a stone trough, along with a small stone pigsty that has a slate roof and shaped stone kneelers.
