Description
Clotton Cottage is a mid-17th century building that was originally a farmhouse and later converted into two estate cottages, now functioning as a house. It features timber framing with brick nogging set on a stone base, along with some brick repairs. The cottage has a red tile roof and two gable brick chimneys. It is one storey with an attic and has a five-bay front. The small frames are made of slender scantling with angle braces. The ground floor includes one, two, and three-light casements, with a door in the fourth bay that has five fielded panels, sheltered by a flimsy lean-to porch. Above, there are a pair of windows in a timber-framed gabled dormer topped with a finial. The sides and rear of the building are constructed of brick. Inside, there are heavy chamfered ceiling beams and parts of the floor are made of quarry tiles. Upstairs, the tiebeam and collar trusses are exposed.
