Description
Wynnstay Farmhouse is a former farmhouse, now a house, dated 1611 with some 19th-century alterations. It features a timber-framed structure with plastered nogging on a stone base, a purple tile roof, and a single ridge brick chimney. The building has a lobby-entry plan with a crosswing and a front that is 1 and 2-storey with 5 bays. The framing is regular with small panels and substantial angle braces. The left end bay serves as the crosswing and contains wooden casements. There is a door in the second bay set in a simple wooden case, while the remaining bays have 2 and 3-light casements, with the fourth bay featuring an original shaped lintel inscribed with "SMR WR 1611."
Inside, there is an entry into a small lobby, with a hall to the right that has a blocked inglenook with a bead-moulded bressumer, now housing a fine early 19th-century cast-iron range with a kettle hook. A winder staircase is located around the far side of the fireplace. The ceilings throughout have chamfered beams and exposed joists. The kitchen includes a 3-board door with iron strap hinges, which is similar to the one found in the back stairwell.
