Description
The village water trough, dating from the late 19th century, is constructed from rock-faced and dressed limestone. It features a rectangular water trough positioned in front of a gabled back-drop, which is centrally located within a wall approximately 12 meters long. The trough is adorned with a pointed arched recess that has a flat-chamfered moulded surround, decorated with ballflower motifs. There are eroded remnants suggesting a former statue may have stood within the recess. An inscription reading "Waste Not, Want Not" is located towards the apex of the gable. The gable has stepped coping, a roll-cross saddle with a fleur-de-lys, and a metal cross at the top. The wall on either side of the trough steps up towards the gable.
