Description

Ivydene is a pair of semi-detached cottages, with Nos 28 and 29 occupied as one unit. They date from the 17th century and mid 18th century. The cottages are constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, topped with a stone slate roof and featuring stone stacks. The building has a rectangular plan with a single bay, and there is a mid 18th century extension at the left gable end made from more finely dressed stone.

The front elevation, facing the road, is 1½ storeys high and has seven windows, all of which are one or two-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned windows. There are two two-light slate-hung half dormers with wooden casements, and a small single light window just below the eaves. The left side features a 19th to 20th century plank door set within a flat-chamfered 'Tudor'-arched surround, with a stopped hood that continues over the door and the adjacent windows. There may be a projecting bread oven at the right gable end.

The door to No 27 is a 19th century plank door with a segmental-headed stone lintel, accompanied by a two-light hollow-chamfered stone-mullioned window to the left, which also has a stopped hood. The garden front has four Cotswold dormers, each lit by two-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned windows. The ground floor features two-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned windows with stopped hoods. There is a blocked doorway with a timber lintel towards the right gable end, and a plank door set within a flat-chamfered segmental-headed surround, which is sheltered by a corrugated-iron porch, leading to No 27. The hood over this door continues over the flanking stone-mullioned windows. The gable end has both lateral and lateral gable stacks, with moulded capping on the left gable end stack. The interior has not been inspected.
