Description
Nos 20 and 21 on Main Street are a pair of semi-detached cottages dating from the 17th to early 18th century. No 21 features a stone above its front door that reads 'IRM 1587', although this was added later. No 20, on the left, is from the mid to late 18th century. The cottages have a rectangular plan and a combined two-storey facade with three windows. The upper left window is a three-light wood casement with a timber lintel, while the centre has a 20th-century two-light steel casement with a timber lintel. The upper right window is a two-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement with a stopped hood, and there is a similar window on the ground floor. To the left of a 20th-century panelled door with a timber lintel is a small rectangular bay, which may have once been part of an entrance porch. A projecting corbel, likely reused, is located towards the left gable end. To the right of the door is a three-light petal casement. The door to No 21 is a plank door set within a flat-chamfered 'Tudor'-arched surround, with the same dated stone above, featuring an inverted 'V' in relief and a small blind quatrefoil at the top. Both cottages have gable end and axial stacks. The interiors have not been inspected.
