Description

31, 32, and 33 Main Street is a row of three cottages dating from the 17th to early 18th century and late 18th century. They are constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, as well as limestone rubble, with a stone slate roof and a stack made of stone, brick, and artificial stone. Number 32, located at the center of the row, was likely built first, followed by the addition of Number 31 to its east gable end, and Number 33 added in the late 18th century to the west gable end.

Number 31 and Number 32 are two storeys high. The combined garden front of all three properties features four windows, with two-light stone-mullioned casements on the first floor and two and three-light stone-mullioned casements on the ground floor. All windows have horizontal glazing bars. There is a projecting bread oven to the left of the lower right-hand window. A low blocked doorway with a timber lintel is located towards the right gable end of Number 31. Number 32 has a 19th-century plank door within a corrugated iron gabled porch.

On the rear wall facing the road, there are two low doorways with timber lintels (now blocked) for Number 32. Number 33 features a wide raking buttress with a 19th-century plank doorway to the right. There is also a blocked doorway with a timber lintel and a two-light wooden casement for Number 33. The entrance to Number 33 is via the gable end, with a central plank door in a corrugated iron porch and a double-chamfered single-light window to the left. The upper floor has a two-light stone-mullioned casement. The building has an axial and lateral stack made of brick. The low doorways into the rear of Number 31 suggest it may have originally been used for agricultural purposes before being converted. The interiors have not been inspected.
