Description

The Old Farmhouse and Old Farm Cottage are a pair of former detached farm buildings, now semi-detached houses, located in Longborough village. Old Farm Cottage dates to the 17th and mid- to late 19th centuries, while The Old Farmhouse was built in the mid- to late 19th century and has 20th-century additions.

The buildings are constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone, with a stone slate roof and ashlar stacks, one of which has been repaired in the 20th century. The arrangement is rectangular, with Old Farm Cottage situated on the right and The Old Farmhouse attached to the left, featuring a 20th-century extension at its left gable end.

Old Farm Cottage has a symmetrical two-windowed facade. It features double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement windows with 2 and 3 lights, each with stopped hoods and horizontal glazing bars. Painted black lettering is visible over the windows: “CHEESE ROOM” above the upper left-hand window, “DAIRY ROOM” above the lower left window, “COLD ROOM” above the right window, and “LERY ROOM” above the upper right-hand window. A rear access is present.

The Old Farmhouse’s main body is two storeys and has a three-windowed facade with 3-light wooden casements, horizontal glazing bars, and cambered heads. A blocked door is located towards the lower left, also with a cambered head. The 20th-century extension on the left has a gabled dormer window with eaves lighting and a reused 3-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement with a stopped hood on the ground floor. The gable end of Old Farm Cottage has flat coping with a roll saddle. Gable-end and axial stacks have moulded cappings on the 19th-century portions of The Old Farmhouse. The interiors were not inspected.
