Description

Quarr Cottage and Sunny View form a former terrace of three cottages, built in two phases between the 17th and early 18th centuries, with later 20th-century additions. The cottages are now used as two separate dwellings. They are constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, with a stone slate roof and stone stacks. Quarr Cottage is at the centre of the original row and has a rectangular main body with a matching 20th-century extension to the right gable end. A further 20th-century extension to the rear is not of particular architectural interest. Sunny View was added to the left gable end of Quarr Cottage. Both cottages are two storeys high. Sunny View has two windows across its front, while Quarr Cottage has five. Most of the windows are flat-chamfered stone-mullioned, with horizontal glazing bars, though some are 20th-century replacements. There is a 20th-century two-light wooden casement window to the left of the plank front door of Sunny View. Quarr Cottage has a 20th-century plank front door, sheltered by a flat stone canopy with a moulded margin and decorative consoles. A doorway has been blocked towards the right end of Quarr Cottage. Axial and gable end stacks are present, the axial stack having moulded capping. The flat gable end coping remains at what was originally the left gable end of Quarr Cottage. The interiors have not been inspected.
