Description

Hungerford Cottages is a row of three cottages located in Compton Abdale, likely built at three different times during the late 18th century and 19th century. The cottages are constructed from random limestone with dressed quoins and feature a stone slate roof on the main body, while the 19th-century extension has an artificial slate roof. The buildings have a long rectangular plan, with a single bay extension on the right gable end.

The main body consists of two storeys and an attic, with a five-windowed facade showcasing mostly two and three-light stone-mullioned casements, many of which have horizontal glazing bars. The first cottage, No. 1, has a 20th-century gabled porch with a 20th-century fielded six-panel door at the front and a glazed door inside. There are two single-light windows with flat-chamfered stone surrounds on the left gable end.

Cottage No. 2 features a 19th-century plank door with a dressed stone surround, a flat canopy, and consoles. No. 3 has a central plank door with decorative strap hinges, and a part-glazed door within a segmental-headed surround in the 19th-century extension on the right, along with a single-light window in a segmental-headed surround and a two-light casement above. The cottages have gable end and axial stacks. The interiors have not been inspected.
