Description
The Lower Farm is a former farmhouse that has been converted into a detached house. It dates from the late 18th century, with early and late 19th-century extensions. The building is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, with the left gable end of the main body refaced in ashlar. It features a stone slate roof and ashlar stacks.
The main section is two storeys high with an attic and has a six-bay, five-windowed facade. The windows include single light, two-light, and three-light stone-mullioned casements with leaded panes. There is a Cotswold dormer located off-centre to the right, which is also lit by a two-light stone-mullioned casement. The entrance is a double 20th-century plank door located off-centre to the left, topped with a leaded hall-light. This door is sheltered by a flat stone canopy with a moulded margin and bracket.
On the left gable end, there is a Venetian window with leaded panes and a plain architrave on the ground floor, while the first floor features a three-light stone-mullioned casement with a plain architrave and stopped hood. A two-light stone-mullioned garret window is also present. The late 19th-century extension is lit by three-light casements set within segmental-headed surrounds, with access provided by a stable-type door that has a projecting segmental canopy supported by decorative wrought iron brackets. The interior has not been inspected.
