Description

The Old Dairy is a house located in the Market Square of Guiting Power. It is possibly from the 16th century, with a 19th-century extension. The building is constructed of limestone rubble and features a limestone slate roof, a limestone stack, and gable coping.

The main part of the house has a rectangular lobby entrance plan and is two stories high, while the extension is a single story. The main body has two windows: a two-light stone-mullioned window, which is partially covered by the extension, at the top left; and a two-light stone-mullioned window with stilted headed lights and carved spandrels, although the central mullion is now missing and a wood casement has been inserted. There is also a large 19th-century wood casement window at the lower right and a three-light double chamfered stone-mullioned window that is now obscured by the extension on the left side.

The entrance features a four-centred flat-chamfered arched doorway on the left, with a central part-glazed six-panel door located to the right of the extension. The extension includes a two-light 19th-century casement window in the gable end and a three-light 19th-century fixed casement with a part-glazed plank door in the right wall. The building has a central stack and flat gable coping at the left end, topped with a roll-cross finial.
