Description
A pair of cottages dated 1841, situated on the A433 in Barnsley Village. The cottages are constructed of coursed rubble stone with a stone slate roof and three stone stacks, two at the ends and one along the ridge. They form a single range and have two storeys. The front elevation features four windows, each with paired metal casements set in plain reveals and protected by timber lintels. Flush quoins are also present. A three-light metal casement is visible on the outer side of each cottage's ground floor. Cottage number 20 retains its original central front door and a two-light window on its inner side. Cottage number 21 has moved the two-light window to the centre and includes a 20th-century glazed door on its inner side. Both doors are sheltered by flat stone hoods supported on wooden brackets. A datestone inscribed "Sir/J.M.BART.1841" is positioned in the centre of the front elevation.
