Description

The Small House is a detached house located in Great Rissington, dating from the mid to late 17th century, with extensions added in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed roughly squared limestone with dressed quoins and features a stone slate roof. The house has an ashlar stack that has been partly restored and a coursed squared and dressed limestone stack that was restored in the 20th century.

The main structure is rectangular with a lean-to extension at the left gable end and a 19th-century extension that is at right angles to the front. There is also a 20th-century entrance lean-to on the left-hand return of the latter. The main body of the house has two storeys and an attic, with two 2-light stone-mullioned casements on the first floor. The left-hand casement features a hollow-moulded mullion and surround, likely original, while the right-hand casement is a later addition. The ground floor includes an original 3-light hollow-chamfered stone-mullioned casement with a stopped hood.

The right gable end has 20th-century two-light stone-mullioned casements and a single light in the attic. The 19th-century extension has a single 2-light dormer with a slate-hung roof. The lean-to entrance extension features a 20th-century plank door with a timber lintel, flanked by two 20th-century stone-mullioned casements. The gable ends of the main body have flat coping, and there are gable-end stacks on both the main body and the 19th-century extension. The interior has not been inspected.
