Description

Blue Close is one of a pair of cottages, alongside Blue Close Cottage, dating from the mid-17th century. The building is constructed from coursed roughly squared and dressed limestone, featuring dressed stone quoins. It has a concrete tile roof with an ashlar stack. The rectangular plan has a gable end facing the road and consists of two storeys and an attic, which is illuminated by a single-light garret window that has a double-chamfered surround, a moulded hood, and horizontal glazing bars.

The original three-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement window, also with horizontal glazing bars, has a stopped hood and hollow-moulded mullions below. On the ground floor of the gable end, there is an early 20th-century flat-chamfered stone-mullioned casement window, which also features a stopped hood. The entrance front has three windows, with an original two-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement window on the first floor.

To the left, there is a 20th-century single-light window with a flat-chamfered concrete stone surround, and a two-light metal casement window within a cambered-headed surround. On the ground floor, to the right, is a three-light hollow-chamfered stone-mullioned casement window with a stopped hood, next to a 19th-century plank door that is sheltered by a projecting gabled canopy supported by wooden brackets. A small early fixed two-light window with a timber lintel is located below the eaves on the opposite side.

The stack at the gable end facing the road has moulded capping and flat-chamfered skirting, while the axial stack has squared-off capping and eroded skirting. The interior has not been inspected.
