Description
The Old Smithy is a detached house located in Broadwell, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with a 20th-century extension. The building is constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone, featuring a stone slate roof and ashlar stacks. It has a rectangular plan with a 20th-century extension on the right gable end. The house is two storeys high with an attic, which is illuminated by two roof dormers that have two lights and horizontal glazing bars. The three-windowed facade includes double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements, mostly fitted with leaded panes, and features stopped hoods over the ground floor windows. The central entrance consists of a 19th-century plank door with a thumb latch and a gabled canopy supported by wooden brackets. Above the door is a 20th-century two-light metal casement with frosted glass. There is also a single-storey 20th-century lean-to extension. The gable ends have flat coping and gable-end stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
