Description
Tollgate is a detached house dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble stone with alternating flush quoins and features a stone slate roof. The house has external ashlar end stacks with a moulded cornice and offsets. It consists of a single front range of two storeys, with two small rear extensions at right angles that have concrete tile roofs.
The front facade includes five windows, which are 2-light stone mullion and transoms set in moulded stone frames. On the ground floor, there are four similar windows with a continuous dripmould above them. The central door has six recessed panels within a chamfered stone frame and is topped by a 2-light rectangular fanlight. A large early 19th-century stone gabled porch, featuring kneelers and a large ogee in the front gable, has panelled 'pilasters' that lean out to the east.
