Description
Empshill Farmhouse and the adjoining stableblock are a detached farmhouse and stable structure dating from the late 18th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 19th century. The buildings are constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, topped with a stone slate roof and ashlar stacks. The main farmhouse has a rectangular plan with a later outshut at the rear and a partially converted stableblock to the right.
The farmhouse is two storeys tall with an attic, featuring single lights in the gable ends. Its four-windowed facade includes 2-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements, with canted bays added to the left and right on the ground floor. To the right of the facade is a double-chamfered single light next to a 20th-century part-glazed plank door. The stableblock, which is 1½ storeys high, has an attic lit by a 20th-century two-light roof dormer. The ground floor contains a plank door and a stable-type door, along with one 2-light casement and two fixed 6-pane windows. Both the farmhouse and stableblock feature gable-end stacks and an axial stack on the stableblock, all with moulded cappings. The interior has not been inspected. This property is part of a close-knit group of farm buildings.
