Description

The Old Rectory is a former rectory, now a house, reputedly built in 1788. It is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone with a stone slate roof to the main body and stableblock, and has ashlar stacks. The building has a rectangular plan for the main body, with a flat-roofed extension to the left that links it to a former stableblock, now converted into garaging.

The main body of the house is two storeys and an attic, with 20th-century flat-roofed dormers and 2-light casements in the gable ends. The garden front is symmetrical with a five-window facade, featuring 12-pane sashes with plain architraves and keystones. The central entrance has a fielded 6-panel door within a restored round-headed surround with a fanlight containing radiating glazing bars, supported by Doric columns and topped with a gabled stone canopy. A Sun Fire Insurance plaque is located above the door, and traces remain of a former porch roofline. A band and parapet sits above the first-floor windows. A 19th-century, part-glazed door is located in the right gable end, set back within a panelled reveal with a brick-built head and ornate fanlight. Rear elevations have 12-pane sashes within plain architraves. The main body has a half-hipped roof with axial stacks, while the stableblock has a similar half-hipped roof.

Inside, the original staircase features a wreathed handrail and stick balusters.
