Description

The stableblock at Farmington, which includes South Stable Cottage and North Stable Cottage, dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone with a stone slate roof and ashlar stacks. The stableblock forms a courtyard, with two sides of the stableblock converted into two cottages, an open-fronted store on the north side, and a wall with an entrance on the east.

The stableblock is two storeys high and features 12-pane sash windows on the ground floor and 6-pane sash windows with horns on the first floor, all set within plain architraves. There are five tall doorways leading into the stableblock and its converted section. The North and South Stable Cottages have 20th-century double part-glazed doors, with six-pane fixed casements above each. To the right, there is a 20th-century double-width opening. The right wing of the stableblock has two 19th-century double doors and a 20th-century part-glazed door, with casements above all doors.

Three basket-headed archways on the right side are now blocked, with 20th-century garage doors inserted. The stableblock has axial and lateral stacks. The open-fronted store is a single storey with nine basket-headed bays, divided by ashlar piers featuring imposts and keystones, with three bays walled in during the 20th century. The store has 20th-century casements and doors added. The wall surrounding the property is approximately 2.5 meters high, featuring a double-width opening off-centre to the right, flanked by square gate piers topped with ball finials.
