Description
The shelter over the former village pump in Farmington, which has now been removed, is a notable structure. An inscription on the lintel reads, "ERECTED IN MEMORY OF EDMUND WALLER SQUIRE OF THIS PARISH OB: 20th MARCH 1898." There is also a plaque on a timber upright indicating that the roof was presented by some citizens of Farmington, Connecticut, U.S.A. in July 1935, marking the 300th year of Connecticut's foundation. The shelter features an ashlar dwarf wall and a stone slate roof supported by heavy timber uprights. It has an octagonal plan with a dwarf wall that includes four openings, wall supports, and a heavy open-sided timber frame. The roof is octagonal with gablets over each face, topped by an open-sided octagonal lantern that has an ogee curved leaded roof and a ball finial.
