Description

Holt Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and an enlargement at the rear in the late 19th century. The building features a rubble stone exterior faced in roughcast on a plinth, with a 19th-century wing constructed from coursed rubble stone. It has a stone slate roof and a nearly central ashlar ridge stack with a moulded cornice, similar to the stack on the gable end at the rear on the left. Originally, the farmhouse had a shallow L-shape design with an additional projecting central rear gable and consists of three storeys.

The front has three windows on the first floor, which are 3-light later casements set into plain raised architraves with small keystones. The second-floor windows are positioned directly below the eaves. On the ground floor, there are two ashlar canted bays with moulded cornices, likely from the early 19th century, featuring later 4-pane sash windows. These bays flank a central projecting gabled porch, also from the 19th century, which has a chamfered shouldered arch and an inner door with four recessed panels. The upper two panels have a decorative shaped surround, while the lower two are in diagonal planking. The right-hand return of the building retains original 2-light stone mullions, one of which has a square hoodmould. The rear wing, which is two storeys high, has windows with cambered heads.
