Description

ASHLEY CULKERTON ST 99 NW 4/10 Holt Farmhouse II

Farmhouse. Core probably of late C17, altered in C18, enlarged to rear in late C19. Rubble stone faced in roughcast on plinth, with C19 wing in coursed rubble stone, stone slate roof, ashlar ridge stack nearly central with moulded cornice, and similar to stack to gable end to rear on left. Originally a shallow L-shape range with additional projecting central rear gable, 3 storeys. Three windows, 3-light later casements set into plain raised architraves with small keystones on first floor, second floor windows set directly below eaves. Ground floor has 2 ashlar canted bays with moulded cornices, possibly of early C19, with later 4-pane sashes, flanking central projecting gabled porch also of C19 with chamfered shouldered arch and inner door of 4 recessed panels, upper 2 with decorative shaped surround and lower 2 in diagonal planking. Right hand return retains original 2-light stone mullions, one with square hoodmould. Rear wing of 2 storeys has cambered head fenestration.
