Description
No. 6 Great Barrington Village is a detached house that was formerly two houses, dating from the late 18th century and 19th century. The 18th-century section on the left is built of ashlar limestone, while the adjoining 19th-century section is made of coursed squared and dressed limestone. The building has a stone slate roof and an ashlar stack. It has a rectangular plan and features a 20th-century flat-roofed extension at the rear, which is not of special interest.
The late 18th-century part is two storeys high with an attic, which is lit by a single 20th-century, three-light roof dormer with hung slate on the sides. The two-windowed facade has three-light wooden casements with leaded panes, all set within flat-chamfered surrounds that have stopped hoods. The gable ends have flat coping, and the stack at the left gable end has moulded capping and skirting.
The 19th-century section is also two storeys high with an attic, featuring two three-light wooden casements with hung slate on the sides. Its three-windowed facade is lit by a mix of two and three-light wooden casements with leaded panes and concrete lintels. The central entrance has a 20th-century two-panelled door with a flat canopy supported on moulded brackets. The interior has been completely modernised.
