Description
No. 51 in Great Barrington Village is a house that was originally two cottages, built in the early to mid-19th century. The structure is made of coursed squared and dressed limestone, topped with a stone slate roof and ashlar stacks. It has a rectangular plan with a small extension on the right gable end.
The garden front features five windows, all of which are 2-light 20th-century wooden casements with leaded panes. Some of these windows have timber lintels, while others have concrete lintels. To the left of the house, there is a part-glazed 20th-century door with a flat canopy supported by moulded brackets, which was originally the entrance to one of the cottages. The doorway to the former separate cottage on the right is now blocked, with a small casement window inserted into the blocking. The canopy over the door has been retained.
On the roadside front, there is one 2-light and one 3-light stone-mullioned casement, both with leaded panes. A central doorway has been blocked, with a small single-light window added in its place. The right gable end features flat coping, and there are gable-end and axial stacks. This property is part of the Barrington Park Estate.
