Description
No 2 is a former pair of semi-detached cottages, now combined into one, dating from the mid to late 17th century. The building is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, featuring large dressed quoins and a stone slate roof with ashlar stacks. It has a rectangular plan with the gable end facing the road. There is a small lean-to that serves as an entrance along part of the left-hand side.
The building stands two storeys high and has two 2-light stone-mullioned casements on the gable end facing the road. The upper floor casement is double-chamfered with a stopped hood and early leaded panes, while the ground floor casement dates from the 18th to 19th century. A 19th-century plank door leads into the lean-to on the left side of the gable end.
On the right-hand return, there are two and three-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements, all with stopped hoods on the ground floor. Additionally, there are two blocked doorways with flat-chamfered surrounds and ogee steps. A 19th-century plank door with a rectangular pane at the top features a timber lintel above it. The building has axial and gable-end stacks with cappings and skirtings. The interior has not been inspected. At the time of the last survey in June 1986, Barrington Park Estate was empty.
