Description
The surround to the village water supply is a notable structure dating from 1870, featuring an inscription on an unravelled stone scroll at the back of the recess that reads 'THE GIFT/OF/ANNE ROGERS MORRIS'. It is constructed from red sandstone and limestone, with a rectangular plan and a semi-circular recess. The round-headed arched recess is adorned with vermiculated sandstone that forms the archway. On either side of the recess, there are two red sandstone piers topped with cushion capitals. Within the niche, there is a cast iron lion's head with a tap. Above the inscription plaque, a bat-like winged beast's head is present. The rectangular surround is capped with a moulded edge and is made of brick, standing in front of walls that were formerly enclosed by a cast iron railing that curved towards the recess.
