Description
This drinking fountain is a sandstone structure built in the Gothic style. It features a large bronze spout and red granite plaques with gilded lettering, set within a blind chamfered arch that has a dripstone and stringcourse. Above the arch is a gable with roll-moulded coping, a cruciform finial, and buttresses, with a quatrefoil crest at the apex of the gable. The plaques inside the arch bear the inscriptions: "Give God the Praise" and "To the Glory of God and in Loving Memory of Rees Goring Thomas, MA, JP, DL, of Plas Llannon, this fountain is erected by his friends in fulfilment of his last wish that this village should have a plentiful supply of water. 1889." At the base of the fountain is a water trough with an overflow. The pavement next to the fountain has been raised and is supported by a small retaining wall that is not original.
It is said that the water was sourced from Ffynnon Non, but the supply has since been cut off.
