Description

The Old School is a building constructed from brown stone featuring polychrome stone relieving arches, red plain tiled roofs, and stone chimneys. On the left side, the gable of the main schoolroom showcases a 4-light Gothic window, a clock at the apex, and a corner chimney supported by corbels. Wrought iron cross finials adorn the gables. The left side elevation includes a door flanked by replaced windows, while the rear has two 2-light Gothic windows with an oculus above. To the right of the front gable, the roof slopes down over a porch, and adjacent to this is a smaller gabled crosswing made of a darker and harder stone, featuring a single window on the first floor and a double window on the ground floor. Between these windows is a relocated datestone that reads "Llannon National School 1841," with an entrance to the right under a hipped roof. A gabled dormer with a window across the eaves and paired windows on the ground floor is also present. A tall chimney at the center of the right gable is dated 1882, and some windows at the rear have been replaced.

The left block and the center block behind the porch now function as one dwelling. The left block has a roof with five bays, separated by arch-braced high-collar-beam trusses that include a king post and side braces rising from the centers of the collars. The purlins and rafters are exposed. During the conversion of this block, intermediate floors have been added, and new stairs have been constructed. The center block, located behind the timber porch, also has inserted floors. A wide Gothic archway separates the two blocks.

The interior of the dwelling to the north of the party wall was not inspected during the resurvey in July 1998.
