Description
The Memorial Fountain is constructed of rock-faced stone and features a half-hipped slate roof with very wide boarded eaves. It is set back within a horseshoe-shaped arch that has a keystone. The fountain consists of a green-stone bowl that is carefully rounded and delicately ornamented with floral details. The original tap is missing and has been replaced with a modern version on the right side. On either side of the fountain, there are bronze plaques displaying the monogram G & MLV and their coat of arms, both positioned beneath green-stone hoodmoulds. Above the fountain bowl, there is a central freestone panel with an inscription that reads: 'Colonel George Hope Lloyd-Verney gave the first water supply in 1888 to the village of Llangurig. - He sendeth the springs into the rivers which run among the hills. Pslm CIX ver 10. - The supply has been completed and extended by Mrs Lloyd-Verney in 1898 as a memorial of her husband's work.' The base features a pink granite trough with keystones over twin segmental arches through which the water drains. The front has cobbled paving that has been reset. At the rear, there is a recess between continuous buttresses, which includes corner seats and a small boarded hatch in the center.
