Description

BARRINGTON THE GREEN, SP 2012-2112 Little Barrington Village 11/83 Nos 1 and 2 Lower Cottages (formerly listed as two of three 23.1.52 cottages south of Sundial Cottage) GV II Two cottages (formerly 3 cottages in one occupation) in row, No 1 forms end cottage in row (all now in one occupation). Late C17- early C18 in at least 3 phases of building. Coursed squared and dressed limestone. Stone slate roof. Coursed squared and dressed limestone stacks. Single brick stack. Long rectangular plan with later extensions at rear. C20 flat-roofed store at the left gable end, not of special interest. No 1; 1 1/2 storeys with 3 rendered two-light eaves dormers lit by C20 wooden casements with glazing bars. Single 2-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement to the ground floor retaining rectangular leaded panes on the left- hand side. Blocked doorway to left. Two single-light and one 2- light C20 wooden casements with glazing bars also lighting the ground floor. C19 plank door with single 4-pane light at top off- centre right. No 2; two storeys. Two 2-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements to the first floor. The right-hand one forming a half dormer with rendered gable. One 2 and one 3-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement to the ground floor. All windows with leaded panes. C19 plank door to the left-hand bay. C19 plank door set well back within a short passage with a C14 flat-chamfered pointed-arched surround (probably reused) with a moulded hood at the entrance. Gable-end and axial stacks. Interior not accessible.
