Description

7 and 8 Notgrove are a pair of semi-detached cottages located in Notgrove Village. Cottage No 7 dates from the late 17th to mid-18th century, while No 8 was built in the late 18th to early 19th century. No 7 is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, featuring a single course of thinly bedded limestone between each course. In contrast, No 8 is made of limestone rubble. Both cottages have stone slate roofs; No 7 has an ashlar stack, and No 8 has a limestone stack with dressed quoins.

Both cottages have a rectangular plan and are 1½ storeys high. No 7 features two Cotswold dormers on the upper floor, each lit by two-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods. The ground floor has two double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods, and a 20th-century part-glazed door located off-centre to the left, which is sheltered by a flat stone canopy supported on brackets. There is also a blocked doorway with a flat-chamfered surround to the right.

No 8 also has two Cotswold dormers on the upper floor, similarly lit by two-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned windows. The ground floor includes a three-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement on the lower left and a 20th-century four-light stone-mullioned casement with a stopped hood on the right. The central entrance features a 20th-century part-glazed door with a stone canopy. To the left, there is a single bay extension, or possibly an earlier cottage, which has a double-chamfered three-light stone-mullioned casement on the ground floor and a single light to the left, along with a two-light stone-mullioned casement on the first floor. Both cottages have gable-end stacks with moulded cappings. The interior has not been inspected.
