Description

No 19 and the former Post Office are semi-detached buildings located in Notgrove Village. No 19 dates from the late 18th century, while No 9 was built in the mid 17th to early 18th century and was extended and restored by the Acland family in 1939.

Both buildings are constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone with stone stacks. No 19 features a concrete tile roof, while No 9 has a stone slate roof. They both have a rectangular plan. At the rear of No 19, there is a single-storey lean-to that is not of special interest. No 19 has two storeys and an attic, which is lit by a single 20th-century roof dormer. Its facade has three windows, with two and three-light stone-mullioned casements on the ground and first floors. There are stone hoods over the ground floor windows, and a 19th-century plank door is located at the lower right, featuring a single pane set within the door. A gabled stone canopy supported by wooden brackets is positioned over the door, and there is a stack with moulded capping at the left gable end.

No 9, on the right, is also two storeys with a three-windowed facade. It has 20th-century two and four-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements on the first floor. The ground floor, which was formerly a dairy, is lit by two and three-light stone-mullioned casements, one of which has a stopped hood. The central 19th-century plank door is set within a flat-chamfered surround, and there are gable end stacks.

The interiors of both buildings were not inspected. No 9 is included primarily for its group value, as its extension and restoration are very sympathetic to the surrounding architecture.
