Description

A pair of 18th-century cottages, now combined into a single house, stands on The Green in Little Barrington village. The building is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone with a stone slate roof. It features ashlar stacks, with one stack built from concrete blocks to resemble ashlar. Originally two separate cottages, the house has a long rectangular plan. The left-hand cottage has one and a half storeys and twin gables, each containing a 20th-century two-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement window. Four two-light stone-mullioned casement windows are present on the ground floor. The right-hand cottage also has one and a half storeys, with two 20th-century slate-hung roof dormers, each with a two-light wooden casement. It also has two two-light stone-mullioned casement windows on the ground floor, each with stopped hoods. A 20th-century plank door, with fillets, is centrally located on the facade, and is sheltered by a gabled canopy with a moulded margin, supported by moulded stone brackets. Axial and gable-end stacks, restored in the 20th century, have squared-off cappings and skirtings. The interior has not been inspected.
