Description

The Lower House is a house and adjoining barn that was converted for domestic use around 1977. The house dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century. There are 20th-century flat-roofed extensions that are not of special interest. The building is constructed of limestone rubble with dressed stone quoins and features a stone slate roof with ashlar stacks. The main body has a rectangular plan and includes a gabled two-storey stair projection that is off-centre to the right on the south side. An attached converted barn is located at the rear right-hand corner, and there is another extension at right angles to the rear left, which is also likely converted. The house is two storeys with an attic, which is lit by two 2-light 20th-century roof dormers with wooden casements. The windows consist of 2 and 3-light stone-mullioned casements with leaded panes, and there are 20th-century two-light stone-mullioned casements on the ground floor of the stair projection. To the left of the stair projection, there is a 20th-century glazed door with glazing bars, set under a stone-tile roof in the angle between the main body and the stair projection. A sundial with a metal gnomon is located in the gable of the stair projection. The gable-end stacks have skirtings and moulded cappings. The interior has not been inspected.
