Description
This is a pair of gate piers located at the pedestrian entrance to Rokeby Nursing Home, dating from around 1834. They are constructed from ashlar stone over a brick core and are square in shape, standing approximately 2 meters high. The piers feature a plinth, shafts with chamfered angles, a frieze, and cornices. These gate piers are a rare surviving example likely specified by architects RW and C Jearrad for one of the houses they designed, and they play an important role in the overall setting of Malvern Place.
