Description
This is a pair of gate piers dating from around 1833 to 1850, located at Arundel Lodge (No. 37) in Cheltenham. They are made of sandstone ashlar over brick, which is now painted and covered with stucco. The piers have a shaped plinth, and their shafts are square in plan with indents at the angles. They feature a frieze, a dentil cornice, and shaped caps, standing approximately 2 meters high. These gate piers are an integral part of a group of original piers that contribute significantly to the streetscape in The Park.
