GV II
Pair of gate piers with double gates. c1833. Stucco over brick piers with iron gates. Piers have recessed round-arched panels to shafts, chamfered caps. Gates have arrowhead bars and dogbars with lower panel of scroll decoration and arched braces. HISTORICAL NOTE: Merrett's Map indicates that these gates and piers marked the entrance to a formal avenue leading to the centre of The Park development. An integral part of a group of original piers (qqv) that form a significant streetscape feature in The Park. (Merrett HS: Plan of the Town of Cheltenham: 1834-).
