Description

The building comprises two semi-detached villas, numbered 7 and 8, and situated on the east side of Douro Road in Cheltenham. Constructed around 1840-1850, they were likely designed by RW and C Jearrad. The villas are built with stucco over brick, featuring slate roofs, iron balconies, canopy brackets, and porches.

Architecturally, the design is symmetrical and Italianate. Number 7, on the right, has three first-floor windows, with a central, narrow, entrance bay flanked by projecting bays. Stucco detailing includes ground- and first-floor plat bands, and a first-floor sill band which extends to the returns. The first floor features 6/6 sash windows, while the ground floor has tripartite windows with 2-pane French windows and 2-pane side-lights, all in plain reveals with blind boxes. Basement windows are 2/2 and 3/3 sashes. The central entrance has a flight of steps leading to a 6-fielded-panel door, with a further entrance on the left return leading to a side range, containing a 4-panel, part-glazed door. Wide eaves are present. The right return features French windows on the ground floor.

The interior of the building has not been inspected. External features include window guards to the ground floor, displaying an X-motif, and tent hoods supported by scroll brackets. A tented porch on the left return incorporates scroll and lozenge motifs. A balustrade with bulbous balusters and shaped copings runs along the sides of the steps, while the right return has a balustrade with an X-motif and stairs leading down to the garden. The property occupies a corner site.
