Description
Well Close is a villa, now known as St George's Home, built between 1831 and 1848 by RW and C Jearrad. The building features stucco over brick with a hipped slate roof and end stucco stacks with cornices. It has a glass and iron porch and an iron verandah.
The villa is two storeys high and has three first-floor windows on the garden facade, with the entrance located at the side and a full-height canted range at the rear. The entrance is accessed through a porch on the right side, featuring four-panel double doors and a four-panel part-glazed door, along with an overlight and margin-lights. The stucco detailing includes a plinth, a first-floor band, a first-floor sill band, tooled architraves, a cornice, and a low parapet with copings.
On the garden facade, the left window bay projects slightly forward. The windows are 1/1 sashes throughout, with the left windows on both floors being tripartite, and the ground-floor windows are taller. The ground-floor verandah displays rod-and-lozenge motifs. This villa is part of the former Lansdowne Estate and is a notable example of suburban town planning.
