Description
Glen Isla is a villa built around 1830 to 1850, with later additions and alterations, including ranges at the rear. The front facade features ashlar over brick, while the rear is finished in stucco. The building has a slate roof and includes iron railings, balconies, and a porch.
The villa is two storeys high with an attic and has three first-floor windows. The narrow central entrance bay is flanked by projecting gabled ranges. The outer bays have quoins at the ground floor and a moulded band at the first floor. The ground-floor windows are adorned with eared architraves and sills, while a round arch with a keystone is positioned above the entrance. The first-floor outer windows feature aprons and eared and shouldered architraves that extend as round arches with keystones and a shield in a lunette above. The central first-floor window also has an apron and eared architrave. The first floor and basement contain 6/6 sash windows, while the ground floor has 2/2 sashes. The central entrance is accessed by a flight of steps leading to double doors with six fielded panels and a fanlight above. The attic includes a gabled roof dormer with a casement window.
On the right side, there is a ground-floor canted bay with replacement windows from around 1990 and a hipped roof, along with 6/6 sashes in the basement. The porch features a scroll motif on its uprights, and the railings have stick balusters on the sides of the steps. The area railings display an X-motif, and the individual balconies are decorated with ornate pierced balustrades. The design is similar to that of Clayton and Demara on Douro Road. The interior has not been inspected.
