Description
Clare is a villa built between 1831 and 1848, designed by RW and C Jearrad, with later additions. It features a stucco exterior over a brick structure and has a hipped slate roof, with a brick and stucco stack at the right end and a glass and iron conservatory. The building has a double depth plan with a service range at the rear.
The villa is two storeys high and has three first-floor windows. It includes a first-floor band, a continuous stepped sill band, and tooled architraves. There is a cornice and a low parapet. The entrance, located on the right return, consists of a four-panel door with an overlight featuring glazing bars, set within a solid porch. The entrance facade mainly displays 6/6 sash windows in tooled architraves. The garden facade features a tripartite window on the first floor to the left, all with 1/1 sashes. The ground floor has a canted bay with pilasters between the windows, also with 1/1 sashes, and the conservatory is situated on the right.
The interior has not been inspected. Clare is similar in design to Well Close on Lansdown Parade and is part of the former Lansdowne Estate, representing a notable example of suburban town planning.
