Description
This is a villa, now divided into two houses at numbers 24 and 25 Wych Elm, built around 1831 to 1848 by R.W. and C. Jearrad. The exterior is stucco over brick, with a hipped slate roof and tall stucco chimney stacks with cornices. The house has two storeys, with two windows on the left side (number 24) which are set back, and three windows on the right (number 25), the third bay of which projects slightly. The detailing includes a plinth, a first-floor band, a first-floor sill band, and tooled architraves to all openings. The first-floor windows are a tripartite 4/4 sash between four fixed lights, a 2/2 sash, a similar tripartite window, a multi-pane casement, and an 8/8 sash. The ground floor features a tripartite window that now incorporates a French window, a 6-panel door with a glazed overlight, a tripartite window with 4/4 sashes between 2/2 sashes, and two 6/6 sashes; the last three windows are taller. All windows are in plain reveals. The entrance to number 25 on the return side has steps leading to a 4-panel double door with a matching overlight, set within a tooled surround. The rear of the building largely retains 6/6 and 8/8 windows. Inside, original joinery remains, including panelled shutters to the ground floor. The building abuts numbers 1 to 23 Lansdown Parade. It is part of the former Lansdowne Estate and represents a notable example of suburban town planning.
